John Robert Dutcher fell asleep in the Lord on Aug. 8, 2008, after a courageous fight with pancreatic cancer. He was born on Oct. 13, 1953 in Tyler, TX, to John Raymond and Louise Emery Dutcher, and moved with his family to Oklahoma City. The third of four siblings, John graduated from U.S. Grant High School in 1971 and attended OU.
John showed his love for God by serving faithfully behind the altar from the age of 10 and as Subdeacon at St. Elijah’s Antiochian Orthodox Church in Oklahoma City and was honored with the Genesis Award in 2004.
He was the Fuel Maintenance Engineer for Love’s Travel Stops. Past employment included Bergey Windpower and Hoidale Company. A member of St. John the Divine and the 10th Street Motorcycle Club, he grilled a mean Kafta for the annual Food Festival. Being a Texan by birth, he was a longtime Longhorns fan.
A Beloved Husband, Father, Brother, Grandad and friend, he will truly be missed by all who knew his smile, soft heart and deep voice.
He was preceded in death by his parents. John is survived by his wife of 34 years, Nila; three daughters: Heather Ann and husband, Aaron M. Spencer of Norman; Jennifer Renee and husband, Aaron T. Farha of Wichita, KS; and Sarah Rebecca Dutcher of OKC; two grandsons, John Jeremiah and Corbin Leo Spencer (and Baby Girl Farha, due in December); sisters Martha Dutcher of OKC, Elizabeth and husband, Mike Bennett of Edmond and brother Mark and wife, Jerri Dutcher of OKC.
Trisagion Services are 7 p.m. Sunday, Funeral at 10:30 a.m. Monday, both at St. Elijah’s Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church, 15000 N. May; Interment at Chapel Hill Cemetery in North Oklahoma City. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Elijah Flowers That Do Not Wither Fund. Donations may also be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Research Organization. www.pancan.org

Dear Mrs. Dutcher and Family,
Please accept my heartfelt condolences on John's passing. I had the pleasure of working with John as we did work for him on a Love's location in Virginia. John and I only met face to face one time when he visited the area. Most of our conversations were on the telephone but even over the phone John's qualities came through all the time. He was always a gentleman and a professional. Even when he was pulled in ten different directions and stressed, he took the time needed and was always fair in his dealings. I suspect he will be very missed by a lot of folks all across the country like us. Please know that your family will be in our prayers here.
Sincerely,
Buddy Bayliss

John and his family are deeply in my prayers, I recently lost a loved one and know of the pain a loss like this can carry. I only worked with John via phone but the times we worked together he was a very polite and gentle man who showed pride in his work. We will never forget that deep voice! Love Tonia
