By now most of you have been told what has happened in the last week. Forgive me for not updating all of you who loves John and our family so much. Things are not good. On Saturday I had to call EMSA because even with oxygen John could not get air. They responded within 3minutes. God Bless EMSA and the Fire Rescue squads. I was totally muddle headed and scared. But thankfully I had been keeping a spreadsheet on John's meds and all necessary papers all in one place. At the hospital they did a bunch of tests and CT-scan. It showed John has pneumonia and that possibly, with his inability to move, possible multiple small tumors that have invaded his lungs that the cancer is spreading pretty rapidly. He was given antibiotic by IV and sent home with oral antibiotic to at least help make him a little comfortable. He is unable to communicate most times. We are just trying to keep him out of pain as much as possible. The end of this terrible disease is very near. We don't know exactly when, just was told 'near'. All of my girls, son-in-laws and my siblings and John's sister, are here all week and for a few days to come. They are being as "rock-solid" John's girls as they can be under the circumtances and a great help and comfort to me. All of your calls and visits have made our hearts so full. Also, I am reading (very occasionally) the encouraging emails and blog comments. Forgive me for not responding to each of you. My energy level is all devoted to John and the girls right now. I am telling him, because I know he hears, about each of you. God has truly blessed us with so many beautiful loving friends. Just to let each of you know, as a parish, we are also blessed to have such caring priests to take care of us. When the hospice told me their pastor would be calling I said "Don't bother, please send him where others need him. We are well taken care of and prepared as best we can be by a multitude of compassionate priests and held up by many-many friends." Pray that God in His mercy gives John peace from pain and suffering. I know he's ready and we as a family are ready for him to be with Our Father. He has been a wonderful husband, father and son. And that is what I believe all that God asks of man is to take care of his family and church. May God richly bless each of you. With much love and contant prayer, Nila and Family

Dear John and Nila - we knew yesterday something was very wrong as we saw the ambulance. We have kept our distance, because we felt you have so many who are so close and John's time to see visitors is so precious. But we have read your entries at all times, and in church, a lot of our time in prayer has been for John and to ask for God's help in keeping him comfortable, since he couldn't be well. Just know we are here and can do anything at all to help. You and your girls are in our thoughts so often and will be even more so in the days to come.

We are deeply saddened to hear that it's now progressing quickly. John's valiant journey with this horrific disease has mirrored my dad's through the exact months, although 13 years ago. It has been our hope and prayer that medical advances since then would have extended John's life. You know that we are here in prayer and just a call away for anything you need, always.
Hugs and booses to you all.

John, Nila and Girls...
This quote comforted me when I lost my father and as I explained the meaning to my young children.
John is loved by all of us and we all pray that you are comforted in the next few weeks. God bless.

John and Nila,
I have never removed John's name from my office phone extension list so every time I call an extension I think of John. John was a great employee, customer and friend. He has been a great witness for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through all of this. God Bless.

Lord have mercy is what we say and pray repeatedly through the liturgy. It is now more than ever that we understand what it really means.
I reflect on my experience with mother and how quickly things progressed. It is the most meaningful time of my life. I pray for you all and the comfort of the holy spirit be with you.

Dear John and Nila...we are at a loss for words. We hold you in our hearts, we lift you up in our prayers. John is such a special person, we are blessed to know him, to call him friend. John, you probably feel closer to God than at any other time in your life. These words from Psalms bring you to mind, for you are courageous and faithful.
"As for me, in righteousness I shall behold Your face; I shall be satisfied when Your glory is revealed." Psalm 16:15
We love you, John. Gail and Milton

We are all better off for your being a part of our lives! I love each of you and wish I could be closer. Now I will change my prayer to keep the pain at bay and all of you given the strength to help John on this last journey in this life. What a blessing to know that there will be no pain for John at his destination.

Nila and John,
We are so glad you have such a good family and friends to look to for support. We hope that you can
keep strong during this time.

Nila,
John, you and the girls and their families have been in our continuous prayers; especially, since I read yesterday's blog. Please tell John how much he is loved by everyone who has had the privilege of knowing him. He was an excellent example to everyone of what a Christian man should be.
In times of sorrow, I like to refer to my favorite verse:
This is what the Lord say -- "He who created you O Jacob, He who formed you, O Israel: Fear not, for I have summoned you by name, you are Mine." Isiah 45:1
The Lord will summoned John by name and John will be His unto ages of ages. In this, we can rejoice.
All our love and all our prayers,
Bob and Mary Jane
You are in our thoughts and prayers. May God place his loving arms around you, and grant you peace.

And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God's love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries for tomorrow--not even the powers of hell can separate us from God's love. No power in the sky above or in the eart below--indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-29.
Dear Nila and John, This was my devotional a few days ago when I learned of the results of John's surgery. I thought immediately of you both. I pray for your comfort from pain and sorrow. I ask that our Lord God hold you in his arms and comfort you and your wonderful family.
Sincerely,
Carol Comp

What a wonderful family you have Nila. One thing you know is that you have so many friends and family memebers who love and care for you deeply. We all wish that you all did not have to suffer and endure pain. This is where the "Footprints" poem can create a mind picture of our sweet Jesus carrying you this....
